Charlie Wall Park

Charlie Wall Park is a gathering place for our local community and the greater area of the RM of Alexander. The park is a public reserve owned and operated by the RM of Alexander. It is located on the south side of Hillside Beach Road.
The park is named in honor of Charlie Wall, a long-time resident of Hillside Beach. It is through his tireless contributions that this green space was developed for the enjoyment of our community.  Charlie organized and led a group of early volunteers who painstakingly cleared the land, put up the fences, and installed the baseball backstop.  Over many years, Charlie took it upon himself to ensure the grass was mowed, and the park was safe for children and families.

Getting better every year...

In recent years, the HBCA has raised funds to develop the children’s play structures and sand area, the picnic shelter, baseball diamond, soccer facilities and basketball court. We recently installed a Shade Sail over the children's play structure and sand pit. Partnerships with the RM of Alexander and Clifton Trainor Construction provide washroom facilities and running water for hand washing for the comfort of park visitors from Victoria Day through to Thanksgiving.

Support the park

The HBCA continues to work towards the development of Charlie Wall Park for the recreation and enjoyment of all visitors. Donations provide the foundation for HBCA capital and community projects, such as purchasing recreational equipment, as well as cultural & social activities.

Plaque donations
On the pillars of the picnic shelter in Charlie Wall Park, there are many plaques acknowledging the generosity of community members, local businesses and “In Remembrance” plaques honouring loved ones. Each spring, new plaques are added to the pillars. All donations over $50 will receive a tax receipt from the RM of Alexander.

Memorial Benches

It’s a wonderful way to remember someone who enjoyed the Hillside Beach over the years and foster further enjoyment of the area.

  2. Describe the spot you'd like to place it.
  3. What company will be doing the work.
  4. Attach your quote.

After receiving your request, the council will discuss it at a meeting and inform you of their decision.

Send your request to:
RM of Alexander, Attention: Don Dowle CAO
Box 100, St. Georges, MB R0E 1V0
cao@rmalexander.com
Phone: (204) 367-6170
Fax: (204) 367-2257

After receiving permission to install a memorial bench
  1. Contact the supplier and make arrangements to purchase and have the bench installed. HBCA can assist with coordinating access to Charlie Wall Park or opening the beach path gates if needed.
  2. Once the bench is installed, send a photo of the installed bench to the RM with a letter/email, donating it to the RM of Alexander.
Factors to consider for bench selection:
  1. Is it constructed of strong, materials e.g. plastic, steel, cement commercial grade?
  2. Is the supplier able to install it in the area you have chosen which may not have road access?
    • We do have access for trucks to get into the park
    • We can coordinate to have a smaller vehicle down the path to the beach.
  3. Is it a style that can be installed on a concrete base that avoids vandalism by being tipped or dragged?
  4. Is it available in natural colors to complement the environment such as wood color, green?
  5. Is it possible to include a plaque to place on the bench?
  6. Obtain quotes for the bench, assembly and installation.  You want to know all the costs including assembling and shipping.
